Mary J. Dowell

 Mary J. Dowell is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MJDowell & Associates, a management consulting group with emphasis in Motivational Speaking, Leadership Workshops, Career Coaching, Human Resources, and Philanthropy. 


She is also an Award-Winning Author of Playing Through The Fence, a book that is part memoir, part self-help for emerging leaders or anyone seeking inspiration while facing obstacles in her career journey. Nineteen women share powerful reflections of fortitude and accomplishments in their lives and careers, sometimes against what seemed like impossible odds, as they challenged barriers on their paths to success.   


Prior to starting her own company, Mary held the position of Vice President of Foundation Affairs and Global Community Relations for Johnson Controls. There she was responsible for moving the company’s community relation’s outreach efforts from local to global status.   


Through her leadership, Mary enhanced the company’s community image and visibility for internal and external stakeholders around the world. She executed the company’s philanthropic goals, objectives, and strategies to maximize its corporate citizenship, reputation, and leadership status.   


Mary is an active supporter of the community. She serves as a board member of Milwaukee Women Inc., After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD), TEMPO Milwaukee, the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, and the Boys & Girls Club's Sista Pride Committee. She is a member of TEMPO Milwaukee, and co-chaired the TEMPO Leadership Summit for two consecutive years. She is a founding member of UPAF’s Notable Women, and has served on the board of VISIT Milwaukee, United Way Collaborative Fund, United Way Women’s Leadership Council, and the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. She served as past president of Ko-Thi Dance Company, the Milwaukee Urban League, and Professional Dimensions.   


Mary has received several community awards, including:
